Yes, we know. You just moved, your most precious possession is still back in some garage abroad accumulating dust and you are desperate to get a decent replacement “just for a few months”. Well, check inside for your guide to gearing up in the Jing.
Taking a look around on the average condition of bikes in Beijing one could come to the conclusion that quality is just not on the menu in this city. If you however take part in one of the local road or MTB races you will be amazed at the sheer amount of money that is invested in gear. High-end components, top of the range frames and an outfit that is always following the current pro-line of cycling fashion.
But where do they get all these tools!?
The answer is not always easy. Contrary to places like Hong Kong or Singapore where you can find small shops that stock up on even the most fancy gear you can think of, here in Beijing you’ll be lucky to find a spare part for your Campagnolo Record set-up. And most of it is overpriced, too.
The best bet for most of you is to get sorted out before you enter China. Once you are here, you’ll mostly depend on friends bringing you stuff over, or you go and order online.
