Basics

TRIBeijing set out as a group of ambitious amateur Triathletes in Beijing who met on a regular basis to train together and to share their passion.

Sadly enough the expat community is not stable enough to guarantee enough members through the years in order to maintain group training. Most of the core members have left for pastures new and the new breed of expats seems not to take to the sport as passionate as the previous bunch of “Ironmen/Ironwomen”.

Couple this with the fact that Triathlon is a time consuming sport, and take into consideration that people start out on different levels with different goals and ambitions, it has become increasingly difficult to train as a group.  But as bike courses are not that varied in Beijing, there is a good chance that we go in the same direction.

If you are interested in joining training sessions (Saturday and Sunday, times vary!), you can contact me by email through tribeijing@gmail.com or call +86 18611865872 (Patrik). Most of the rides take us past Pinnacle Plaza which is out at the New Exhibition Center near the airport. It’s a good meeting point for people living in the villa area (and for us downtown people is is a nice warm-up and cooldown).

Please be aware that TRIBeijing does not provide spare bikes, clothing or accessories for rent. You are responsible for your own equipment! As there is always a new goal on the horizon, there is also a fixed session target which depends on the current training cycle.  Distances are set between 100 – 200 km per session and cruising speed can be anything between 30 – 50km/h.

If you feel that this sounds too much like group torture and you don’t want to take the pain, then you might be interested in joining our big brother “The Mob”. They also organize bike rides every Saturday and draw a crowd that is more focused on the fun aspects of riding together. Read all about them on their website: http://themob.404.com.au/index.php

For Cyclists I suggest you have a look at Tom’s group. The Peloton is organizing group rides around Beijing. You can find information about how to join the group on their website:
